While new games and consoles are great I tend to be a “throwback” type of video gamer. I find a sense of nostalgia when playing games I played when I was growing up. This includes games from the original NES system to Playstation One games. I was born in 1982 so some of the games I play for the original NES system, I played when I first had an NES at the age of five. I recently went on a sort of Zelda “bender” where I played the first Legend of Zelda game for original NES, then the first one for Super Nintendo titled “A Link to the Past,” and then I played “The Ocarina of Time” which was the first Zelda game out for the Nintendo 64 system.
It took me about a month to beat all three games combined. I have beaten all of these games before but every few years I do it all over again. I suppose I enjoy a sense of originality and familiarity. I also do this with Final Fantasy 7 for the Playstation One system every several years. I enjoy this game because it broke boundaries in the video game genre in terms of graphics and story. It is also a very long game with a large world to explore. All of these games’ graphics do not compare to what is available today, especially the original Nintendo and Super Nintendo games.
However, I seem to overlook that as it is no longer one of the most important factors to me in enjoying a game. It is also a commonality between all of these games in that they are in the adventure/role playing game genres. I believe that in these sort of games I feel a sense of personal link with the main characters. I tend to take on their role as if it is really me in the story. I do play a wide variety of games over all platforms as well ranging from side-scrolling shooters such as original Metroid for NES, to current adventure/puzzle solving games of today such as the current Resident Evil or God of War games for Playstation 3 and Xbox.
I didn’t think I cared too my for my xbox 360 until it recently got the 3 red rings of death. It’s a good thing that there are websites dedicated to an xbox 360 3 red lights fix. My console was down for about two weeks before I got up the courage to open it up and try to fix it. I’m glad I did and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
Video games in general are a good way to step away from one’s self and it is especially appealing when one is good at them. I tend to be very good at video games. There are very few games that I have owned that I have never beaten. this does not mean that these games are sometimes difficult and frustrate me. When this happens I feel a sense of accomplishment when I complete a particular goal in a game.

It’s on the fritz again!
